Orange Bowl

All right, I promised a look at all the major bowl games, so first up is the Orange Bowl.

The University of Kansas makes its first appearance in a major bowl game since 1969 against ACC champs Virginia Tech.

Everyone is clowning on KU, claiming they don't deserve a BCS bowl because of their "weak" schedule. From what I have seen, most experts are picking Tech to win by a couple of touchdowns. I'm not so sure about that.

Kansas has scored 40 or more points eight times this year, oh and they put up 76 on once mighty Nebraska. I wouldn't sleep on the Jayhawks in this one, especially their offense.

Virginia Tech has been known historically for its strong defense and great special teams. But that famous defense gave up 48 points to LSU early in the year. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Kansas put up a big score. The question in this game will probably be whether or not Tech can keep up offensively. But they did score 40 or more pionts six times this year.

So in my humble opinion, which doesn't really mean much, I would look for a high-scoring shootout. And any time you have a shootout, I have to give the edge to what I consider the better offense. And I think in this case, the better offense is Kansas.

I think AP Coach of the Year Mark Mangino will have his boys ready to go. They will be tired of hearing about how they don't belong in a BCS game and they will surprise a lot of people.

My prediction –– 45-42 Kansas.

The Jayhawks finish off what has already been a historic year.
