Fiesta Bowl

Weel it's finally time to talk a little about my Sooners.

Both Oklahoma and West Virginia arrived in Arizona on Wednesday to begin preparations for the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2.

The Mountaineers are coming in following weeks of turmoil to say the least. They blew a chance to play for the national championship by losing to a pretty poor Pitt team. Then to make matters worse, their head coach accepted the Michigan job and bolted for Ann Arbor.

So what does that mean for the game? Well, it could mean that West Virginia will come out flat and not really care whether they win or lose. They could come out discouraged after losing thier coach and a shot at the national title. They could come out sluggish and show the signs that a program that has been on the rise as of late, is suddenly free falling at an alarming rate. All of those things could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The fact is these kids are competitive. Otherwise they wouldn't be playing football. I think the Mountaineers will come out wanting to prove to everyone that they are still a top-level team. I think they will come out and try to prove all of the doubters wrong.

They do afterall, still have one of the most dangerous duos in all of college football. Quarterback Pat White and Runningback Steve Slaton are still among the best players in college football. And their version of the spread offense has the potential to give Oklahoma fits. I don't know that OU has faced the kind of speed it will face in White, at least not at the quarterback position. West Virginia could present my Sooners with some major matchup problems.

I think it will all depends, as usual, on which Oklahoma team shows up. Will it be the team that traveled to Boulder and looked rediculous, or will it be OU team that dominated Missouri in the Big 12 Championship?

I don't think West Virginia's defense has much of a chance against OU's offense, as long as Bradford plays like he did most of the year. And as long as OU can establish a ground game to run play actions off of.

So I think the game will come down to whether or not Oklahoma's defense can stop Pat White, Steve Slaton and the high-powered West Virginia Offense. If the Sooners can impose thier physical dominace on defense and begin to pound on the West Virginia dou, rather than chasing them from behind, then I think OU will win convincingly. If however, this game turns into a shootout, I'm not real sure I like our chances.

So what do I think will happen? I can't pick against my Sooners. OU wins big (I hope).
